WHAT IS TO-SHAPE?
To-Shape Torino Urban Art District is a project for the enhancement, promotion and development of Urban Art and Urban and Youth Creativity that presents itself as an “open-air gallery” of Graffiti Writing works, Street Art and metropolitan muralism, settled on the territory in the last 20 years. The creation of an Urban Art District intends to consolidate knowledge, experiences and languages that represent a specific figure of Turin’s street culture, which has grown in a close and fruitful confrontation with the international scene.
To Shape is both an open-air gallery of public art and a systematic project for the activities of artists and institutions, creating an Urban Art district, capable of enhancing the phenomenon of graffiti, muralism and Urban Art in general, both as a tangible and intangible heritage, and as private public practices that guarantee the expression of artists in relation to the contemporary art system, education and free expression for young people.

‘To Shape – Torino Urban Art District’ è la ‘galleria a cielo aperto’ della Città di Torino che raccoglie l’eredità dei lavori di Murarte, Street Attitudes, Pareti ad Arte, Porte ad Arte, Picturin, B.art, TOward, SAM-Street Art Museum, MAU-Museo Arte Urbana, Spazio Portici-Percorsi Creativi e le azioni artistiche all’interno di Parco Dora. È una visione nuova dell’arte che pone la street art, il muralismo e l’urban art al centro e la identifica come motore di sviluppo.
‘To Shape’, progetto di Città di Torino / Torino Creativa, Fondazione Contrada Onlus e GAI – Giovani Artisti Italiani realizzato anche grazie al sostegno di Compagnia di San Paolo – darà merito alle opere già esistenti (sedimentate sul territorio negli ultimi 20 anni) e sarà il punto di riferimento per gli interventi futuri. Un’azione di valorizzazione, con uno sguardo verso il domani, che riconosce la creatività giovanile come asse trainante di sviluppo economico al fine di sostenere il lavoro e le professioni creative. Uno spazio di innovazione imprescindibile anche all’interno del mondo dell’arte.
Cuore di ‘To Shape’ è la cabina di regia che coinvolge soggetti pubblici e privati interessati allo sviluppo e all’incremento dell’arte pubblica nel tessuto sociale metropolitano. Ne fanno parte, oltre all’ufficio Torino Creativa dell’Area Giovani e Pari Opportunità, la Fondazione Contrada Torino Onlus, il GAI, il curatore Roberto Mastroianni, la comunità artistica rappresentata dai collettivi di urban art (Monkeys Evolution, Il Cerchio e le Gocce), istituzioni come la Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per la città metropolitana di Torino, il Politecnico di Torino, l’Università degli Studi di Torino e l’Accademia Albertina delle Belle Arti.
To Shape – Torino Urban Art District’ is the ‘open air gallery’ of the City of Turin that collects the legacy of the works of Murarte, Street Attitudes, Pareti ad Arte, Porte ad Arte, Picturin, B.ART, TOward, SAM-Street Art Museum, MAU-Museo Arte Urbana, Spazio Portici-Percorsi Creativi and the artistic actions at Parco Dora. It is a new vision of art that places street art, muralism and urban art at the center and identifies it as an engine of development.
‘To Shape’ is a project by the City of Turin / Torino Creativa, Fondazione Contrada Torino Onlus and GAI – Giovani Artisti Italiani, created with the support of Compagnia di San Paolo. It gives credit to the already existing works and it is the reference point for future interventions. An action of enhancement, with an eye to the future, which acknowledges youth creativity as a driving force of economic development and supports creative work and professions. A key space of innovation in the world of art.
The heart of ‘To Shape’ is the control room that involves public and private subjects interested in the development and increase of public art within the metropolitan social fabric. In addition to the offices of Torino Creativa and the Youth and Equal Opportunities Area, it includes also Fondazione Contrada Torino Onlus, GAI, the artistic curator Roberto Mastroianni, the artistic community represented by the urban art collectives (Monkeys Evolution, Il Cerchio e le Gocce ) as well as institutions such as the Superintendency of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the metropolitan area of Turin, the Polytechnic of Turin, the University of Turin and the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts.
